James Peery considers painting a calling. A self Calling.
A true artist develops a style within himself
and his work that may or may not be recognized by the artist
as good. This is the main reason why painting is not an easy
thing to do. It is also why the work of such artists as Picasso,
Matisse and Cezanne changed throughout their lives. They searched
for something other than expressing their talent.
Matisse wrote, "Style is an inability
to do anything else." Peery believes that his style will
carry through in his work and that this will one day provide
a value to the paintings far beyond their decorative qualities.
They will possess the rarest of qualities in that they will
be unique and recognizable.
Peery has been a professional artist since
1990. He has participated in numerous one man shows, group
shows and his paintings are held in private collections throughout
the country. For years, he spent time at his home in the South
of France and now works in Michigan, where he has a summer
gallery in the resort town of Harbor Springs.
